Pancakes for the two daughters and only son for breakfast. A kiss on the right cheek (where his dimple was) for the husband before they left for school and work. 41 patients, half of them irate, at work. An aspirin in the middle of the day to relieve her of another terrible headache.

Oblivious to the floating shadow that followed her in the parking lot, Laura's thought that it was another one of those ordinary days with unwanted overtime would turn out wrong. I thought I was having an ordinary day too until I saw uninvited Prudence walking towards us.
