Helen knew it. Hers had come and all remaining thoughts left in her must be expressed. She called for Susan to sit beside her. “Promise me you'll take care of your brothers, sisters, and all of the young ones,” she told her eldest daughter.
“Mom, we will both take care of them.” Susan picked her mother's right hand.
“Janey,” Helen referred to her favorite granddaughter. “She's a diamond in the making but be mindful of your scolding to that girl or she might grow up believing your fears than her convictions.”
