Sometimes in life you got to make appearances. “I'll have the pancake, please, with honey,” I told the waiter.
“Butternut squash ravioli with seared chicken for me,” said the man in a dark grey suit sharing the table with me. The waiter jotted on his small notepad and left. “Who eats pancakes for lunch?” my companion turned to me, his eyes hidden behind a pair of golden-rimmed sunglasses.
“You know I don't eat, let alone dine in restaurants,” I replied.
“You're missing a lot, then.”
“It doesn't matter. Why did you ask me out here?”
“My friend, you're in trouble.”
The man in dark, grey suit also appears in the novel I Killed My Friends and It Thrilled Me.
